Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré in a few words...
Le Bois-Plage consists of three hamlets : Le Bois, Le Morinand and Le Roulant.
Agriculture was one of the main activities of this village, principally its vineyards.
The winemakers and market garden cooperative is located here, bringing together around one hundred producers, who mainly grow PDO potatoes and produce wines.
Today, Bois-Plage is one of the main bathing beaches on Ile de Ré thanks to its long sandy beaches which extend over 6 kilometres, and which have been awarded the Pavillon Bleu for water quality and also for reduced mobility users the status of Handi-Plage.
The beaches of Gros Jonc, Gollandières, Petit Sergent, Pas des bœuf, Les Sauzes, Les Brémaudières, Les Gouillauds ..: you'll be spoilt for choice deciding where to swim or to relax, with these magnificent stretches of pale sands, protected by the dunes!
All of them offer views of Ile d'Oléron, and its lighthouse, Chassiron.
All the summer visitors come to Bois-Plage for its market, the largest on Ile de Ré: around 150 market stall holders offer their wares including fresh produce from the covered market and out into rue de l'Église.
Le Bois-Plage is revealed along its narrow streets where hollyhocks take root to display their most beautiful colours: reds, pinks and whites
As its name indicates... it's the countryside by the sea since on the other side of the band of dunes, the woods composed of maritime pines, green oak and other plants define the landscape of this village.
And if you want to gain some altitude, you can go to conquer the Peu des Aumonts also known as Peu des Hauts-Monts, whose peak is 19m above sea level …it's the highest point of Ile de Ré !
